Self-heal is a low growing perennial. It has dainty purple flowers that emerge in Spring and last all season long. Bumblebees adore the flowers. It is a plant that goes by many names; heart-of-the-earth, all-heal and carpenter’s herb; its varied names reflect its connections and uses in herbal medicine.
It is a very adaptive plant and can tolerate a range of light, soil and moisture conditions. It is useful ground cover for spots that many plants find tricky to thrive in.

Prefers moist soils but is drought tolerant.
Soil
Prefers well drained soils with lots of organic soil amendments. Will tolerate and grow well in most soil types.
