Asparagus ‘Mary Washington’
Asparagus officinalis ‘Mary Washington’
In stock
‘Mary Washington’ asparagus is a highly productive Heirloom variety with a harvest season that can last over two months. It’s considered the gold standard for green asparagus and is long lived, producing spears for 15-20 years.
Our asparagus patch here at Nested is one of our favourite edible garden investments! Walking out in early spring and collecting fresh spears for dinner is a real treat.
Notes: Since these plants are two years old it is best to hold back harvesting many spears year one to help the plant develop a strong crown. These plants are grown from seed and there will be a mix of male and female plants.
Water | Asparagus patches thrive when they receive 1 inch of water a week. |
Soil | Prefers well drained soils rich in organic soil amendments. |
Light | Prefers full sun (over 8 hours a day). |
Form | Asparagus crowns can reach 3 to 5 ft. in diameter. The asparagus ferns that follow the spears reach 3 ft. in height. |
Pollination | Self-pollinating. |
