Anise hyssop is a drought tolerant perennial that has licorice scented leaves. Its leaves are wonderful for tea and the edible flowers can be used to decorate cakes or drinks. It. blooms all summer long and its purple flowers are a favourite of bumblebees.
Anise hyssop has a clumping growth habit, and will self-seed if the spent flower heads are left on the plant into autumn. At Nested, we grow anise hyssop in dense perennial drifts where self seeded plants are kept in check by other established perennials.
